Look Again!: The Second Ultimate Spot-The-Difference Book
Published in Hardcover by Dial Books for Young Readers (May, 1992)
Authors: A. J. Wood and April Wilson
Average review score:

Look Again! & again & again & again.....
From the ever-changing chameleon to the flower-like mantis, the bright stripes of the corn snake to the dramatic display of a jungle bird, you can glimpse the dazzling world of some of this Earth's most fascinating creatures. I like looking at the Comics section of newspapers to find that pair of drawings depicting the same scene. We are told there are differences between the two. LOOK AGAIN! is a book with a similar idea, only it has gloriously colored artwork of humming birds & anteaters; snow tigers & peacocks. Wolves & sea gulls; caribou & seals. Tadpoles & salmon; kingfishers & ducks. Giraffe & lynx; cheetah & meerkats. Fang tooth fish & comb jelly to name a few - what a grand feast for the eyes! ..................

Lord, Take Care of Me: Stories of God's Healing of Abused Children at Camp Alandale
Published in Paperback by WinePress Publishing (September, 2002)
Author: Karen Wood
Average review score:

Authentic, touching, and warmhearted stories of hope.
Karen Wood is the co-director of Camp Alandale, a non-profit Christian camp for abused children in Idyllwild, CA. Along with her husband Robin, she founded Camp Alandale in 1980 and has been loving abused/neglected children ever since.

Through this book, she tells the stories of children who have endured the horror of abuse (sexual/physical/emotional), and then had their heads lifted by their loving Father. The pain that these children endured will bring tears to your eyes, and the change that God wrought in their hearts will bring even more tears--but tears of joy. In the process of reading this, a calloused heart will be melted, and a tender heart will be refined. These stories of hope will challenge your priorities, and move you towards a deeper love of God and others. After reading of God's faithfulness to these children, your understanding of God's heart will be deepened, and your own heart will be moved. I highly recommend this book.

Psalm 27:10: "When my father and mother forsake me, then the Lord will take care of me."

Lost in the Woods
Published in Paperback by Gordon Soules Book Pub (June, 1984)
Author: Colleen Politano

Excellent for children 5-95
As a veteren member of a Search and Rescue team, I found this book to right on target for anyone going into the woods for a picnic, a day hike or an extended outing. The basic premises of Be Prepared and Stay Put once lost will help any person young or old who is confused about where they are and how to get back. The book is designed as a teaching tool for children with "science project" ideas which help young children learn key principles about staying alive and getting found. If more people read and used the ideas in this book, Search and Rescue teams would spend more time at home and less time looking for lost people. My children love the story and don't even realize they are learning valuable life skills.

Lost Woods : The Discovered Writing of Rachel Carson
Published in Paperback by Beacon Press (September, 1999)
Author: Rachel Carson
Average review score:

A Wonderful Book
The book is a collection of Rachel Carson's discovered writing, but it isn't a simple collection of her essays. Thanks to the excellent editor, Linda Lear, all of the 31 essays are well organized in four parts, and each one begins with an editor's preamble that explains background, Carson's motivation, and other useful information for the specific essay. With those preambles and essays, I had a feeling as if I were reading Rachel Carson's biography as well. With her unique combination, a biologist with literary talent, Rachel Carson turned her deep love for nature to the marvelous essays that would be very valuable for human being as a part of nature. The same editor, Linda Lear, wrote Carson's biography (Rachel Carson : Witness for Nature), which I read a couple of months ago and found excellent. It also became one of my highly recommending books.

Lost Woods Adventures of a Naturalist

Author: Teale Ew

a book before its' time
This book studies nature and the outdoors in the spirit of David Attenborough (except 1/2 a century before anyone heard of Attenborough). Interspersed throughout are plenty of B/W photos of critters in natural habitat: King Crab, flocks of feathered friends, busy beavers, The Predatory Bug, slug caterpillar, raccoon, family of possum, etc etc. Plus many non-animal studies: wind patterns, clouds/atmosphere, and much more.

Love Is a Fire and I am Wood: The Sufi's Mystical Journey

Extraordinary storyteller
Angeles Arrien opens many doors to the mysteries of who we are as Uprights. Our tribe is global. We are a family revealed to us in the ancient symbols, myth and stories she so richly weaves. You can all but hear the drums beating in time with the words, feel the warmth of the Council Fires burning, sense the Elders drawing near. This series of tapes initiated me in a time when I was making a great crossing in my life. It is the ultimate wisdom teaching one hopes to have waiting when one steps over into the abyss.

Low-Cost Pole Building Construction
Published in Paperback by Storey Books (June, 1980)
Authors: Doug. Merrilees and Ralph Wolfe
Average review score:

Pole construction - a wonderful alternative for great value.
I gave the book five stars because there was a total lack of books on the subject when I read it months ago. Thanks to Amazon, there is now more available. I am a developer of lots. I have seen what the family faces with home buying. The pole house will only be for the stout-hearted, brave and good humored. But for those few souls it will be a wonderful experience. This book takes you from day one - walking onto your lot - to the finished product. And it tells you everything in between like, how to get your friends to gleefully help you plant your poles to having an old "barn raising". It's good stuff. It's dated, but if you're an ol' fashion American pioneer like me, you'll love the challenge.

Luis Gonzalez Palma: Poems of Sorrow
Published in Hardcover by Arena Editions (April, 1999)

Average review score:

Soulfelt and Honest
Luis Gonzalez Palma is a true artist with a beautiful sense of the people of his country. His work captures the heartbreak and passion that is Guatemalan indio culture and brings it into reality by using fantastical images and old time sepia toned style. One of the most amazing photo books I've ever seen.

I almost wore this cassette out playing it for my first child. Now I am using it all over again for my four month old. He smiles whenever he hears it! It is a great collection of traditional lullabies. Our favorite is "Bedtime Song".
